While the game lulls the player into a false sense of security and enjoyment. The combat becomes repetitive and essentially boils down to mindless button bashing. Then with regards to presentation, the game does look good for the era it was released. The animations are great, the artwork is true to the series and the aforementioned grand sense of scale is much appreciated. Aside from that though, the developers can be pleased with their efforts to present the charm of the show well.
Overall, Ben Protector of the Earth does a stunning job of capturing the action-packed story and art style of the show that inspired the game. The combat has its merits and the boss battles are the main highlights. However, the game is flawed through its lack of innovation throughout.
Plus, there are some niggling problems with the camera for example. Though, as a whole, I think the team behind this game can hold their heads high. This IP demands a lot of a video game counterpart and for this game to even deliver a fraction of that will please fans of the series. We just wish it was able to offer a non-stop action-packed extravaganza right to the finish.
Even though Ben Protector of Earth may seem outdated to some, I actually played this game growing up as a kid. As for the game itself, you are protecting the earth, but mainly the United States first and foremost sorry foreigners.
The United States is split up into five regions in the game, with Omnitrix DNA samples split into the five different regions. These samples were stolen by the main villain, Vilgax. As you can imagine, Vilgax is trying to use these samples to take over and destroy the world as we know it. What a plot! Playing in this game you control Ben 10 himself and have the ability to transform into different alien forms, each with their own special abilities. There are ten different alien forms to be exact, but you only start out the game with two available to you.
It does take up energy to stay in these alien life forms, but you may or may not be able to find a way to stay in them for an infinite amount of time.
This game is tough though, because it is not very comparable to other games, maybe Pokemon just because they are both based on a TV show. Even though I remember the game being pretty fun, the critics did not really share this opinion with me. These critics need to relax and remember the target audience here! As you can see I am a little biased here since I personally played the game at a young age. I guess I have to give this game a six out of ten too though, because it was not very memorable to me.
